At home, the satellite system is permanently installed and initially aligned to the right satellite by the TV technician.
On RVs, the satellite system is usually also permanently installed, but it must be aligned to the requested satellite whenever the position of the vehicle has changed. Fully-automatic satellite systems represent an enormous benefit in this case. At the touch of a button and after a minimal time period, the requested program is received.

A mobile satellite system is able to receive channels all over Europe. Popular travel destinations are covered so that regional TV and radio stations can be received far away from home. The reception range is defined by the dish dimensions, however. With an 85 cm dish (e.g. Oyster® 85), you can even enjoy German television on the Canary Islands.

Terrestrial signal transmission is only possible within a certain country. You can only receive German channels via DVB-T when you are actually located in Germany. Likewise you will only be receiving Spanish programs when using DVB-T in Spain. In Germany, the reception of terrestrial channels is mainly limited to urban areas. Reception is often impaired or even impossible in rural areas, meaning the main holiday regions, or in valleys. In more densely populated areas, you will be able to receive private channels via DVB-T. In rural areas with DVB-T reception, only public channels are usually available.

When buying a satellite system, keep in mind which countries you are planning to visit in the months and years to come. There are basically three different dish or panel sizes, 50 cm, 65 cm and 85 cm. For short trips within Germany and the surrounding EU-countries, a compact, flat-panel antenna (e.g. CARO®) covering traditional central Europe with reception range 4 is fully sufficient. Travelers preferring Spain, Italy or Norway should opt for an antenna featuring at least reception range 2 or 3, e.g. Cytrac®DX or Oyster® 65. Globetrotters are best off with Oyster® 85 with SKEW, covering almost all popular destinations from North Cape to Morocco or Greece. The "SKEW" option does in fact make it possible to expand Oyster®'s reception range. In the fringe areas of the southwestern and southeastern holiday regions, the LNB must be rotated due to the earth's curvature. This compensates for the polarization angle. Thanks to the SKEW function, the Oyster system automatically detects the direction in which the LNB must be rotated and performs adjustment via an electric motor.

Space requirements differ depending on dish and panel size and should be inquired prior to installation. Otherwise the antenna might be mounted too close to other roof installations or protrude the vehicle rim. In some cases, height also represents a problem.

An advice: Oftentimes people add the 14 cm installation height of the satellite system (e.g. CARO® / Cytrac®DX ) to the vehicle's overall height and are then upset because they believe that the vehicle will be too high to fit under a carport or in the garage once equipped with the satellite system. In this case please keep in mind that roof installations, such as skylights or sleeper compartments, are already included in the overall height. So in many cases, the CARO® / Cytrac®DX as lowest flat-panel antenna will actually fit as it is only marginally higher than a roof rail or skylight.  ... intended for customers demanding an integrated system from a single source. With this premium system, you can easily operate two devices with just one remote control.

In addition to the main remote control covering all functions, ten Haaft also supplies an 'Easy' remote control. This simplified remote control can be used to switch the system on, change channels and set the volume. It also features a mute button. So customers who were overwhelmed by the amount of buttons on the former remote control or feared they could accidentally change a basic setting can now lean back and watch TV without having to worry about anything.

In this case ten Haaft also offers the perfect solution: The basic variant "Vision", a satellite system without receiver, but with an intelligent control unit and a handy control panel. So any receiver can be connected. All ten Haaft satellite systems (CARO® / Cytrac®DX / Oyster®) are also available as basic variants (= Vision versions).

There is currently one satellite via which an Internet connection can be established, ASTRA 3. Oyster® Internet does not only allow you to receive but also to send data. Please observe that German customers cannot simultaneously surf the Internet and watch TV as they need two different satellites for Internet and TV (Astra 3 and Astra 1).

You can use "Oyster® TV" sets with any wall mount fulfilling VESA standard 100 x 100 mm.

Yes, you can use an "Oyster® TV" as output device or as receiver with any type of satellite antenna. This also applies to "older" ten Haaft systems. The buttons for controlling the antenna will be without function, however. If the system responds to DiseqC signals, it will respond to different satellites and will rotate when channels are switched. In this case, DiseqC must be deactivated or must be adjusted to the TV set.
